The Mainspring winder is an essential tool for watchmakers. Winding a mainspring by hand is tedious, risks damaging the spring, and may contaminate it.
-
As a hobbyist, spending around $1000 on a Bergeon winder isn’t always an option. Chinese copies often sell for around $100, but they are notoriously unreliable — the hook mechanism breaks easily and is usually irreplaceable.

The Chronofix Estrapade is a smart, durable alternative. Ready to use, compatible with both left- and right-hand wound springs, and fits nearly all barrel sizes (7.0–18.5mm).
Designed for long-term use and easy maintenance:
• Low-stress plastic parts ensure longevity
• Steel components are replaceable and handle mechanical stress
⚠️ Sizing Tip: Choose a housing barrel that's about 0.5mm smaller in diameter than your Mainspring barrel.
Small Kit (7.0–12.5 mm) includes:
• 2 winders with 1.5mm & 2mm stainless steel shafts
• 1 dual-purpose setting bowl / support base
• 12 housing barrels from 7.0 to 12.5 mm
• 1 template to make replacement hooks
• 2 hooks

It took about 5 minutes to get it through my thick skull how to use these. Now that I understand, I think they're AMAZING.
I have multiple sets of winders; 2 K&D and the ubiquitous Bergeon; they all work until they don't. The K&D are irreplaceable; the company is defunct. And with the Bergeon, you must mortgage your home, sell a kidney, and promise your eldest child to marriage with some soulless corporation.
These WORK. Yes, they're bulky. Yes, they're 'cheap.' But the stud is replaceable with ANY STAPLE from a stack of documents. Or a stapler.
For $85 USD, with free shipping, I could not be more happy with this purchase.
And if they ever wear out, I'll buy another set.

Post Script;
Thank you for the little vial of Moebius 8200; that was very kind, and has a "value added" benefit.

I'm a hobbyist and I've never used mainspring winders before so I don't have a reference to something like bergeon. It took me some tries to figure out how to use it properly. But after an hour of fiddling with an old mainspring I got it to work. Once you know it is pretty straight forward and easy to use. This got me the power of winding mainsprings without having to spend hundreds on a set. Very happy with it!
Not as easy as it looks with vintage watch mainsprings
Tried a number of times before success. Need to press slightly in rotating the base. A bit challenge to wind my Japanese mainspring.
Took me some time to check and try the product. I would not choose this product for professional use. Unless the quality gets better!
Print, assembly, quality is not great. Also, there is a high chance of braking the spring, even if you are very careful.
Very good tool for good springs. But for old ones that have been used for 10s of years easy to brake.
